Pontalba Apartment

The Pontalba apartment is shared by an attorney and a hospital executive who wanted a weekend getaway space in the city. They love art and entertaining guests and knew that one of the oldest apartments in the United States needed a certain level of charm and flair. With their love of color and Mardi Gras, they wanted to create something that would be reflective of the city’s culture and their personalities.

Live in Color Living Room

The orange velvet swivel chairs were chosen to tie back into the artwork. Over the antique bar, there are some orange notes in the commissioned piece of the Baroness Pontalba. Mirrored panels were added on the doors behind the bar for an authentic feel. There are custom mirrors over each fireplace to match the lacquered demilunes on each side. The black Chesterfield sofa was repurposed from the owner’s office and drove the theme of the room. Next to the fireplace, there’s an antique acrylic chair featuring more pops of black and orange.

Burlwood chest in a tone to match the headboard and tie into the artwork. Custom pillows in both bedrooms. One set matches the padded walls in the second bedroom which features a black fireplace. We used a mirror behind the headboard for the reflective factor to make the space feel larger. Each bedroom only has one window. The layout maximizes the space in each bedroom. One bedroom features a custom closet that used to be a pass-through space with antique hand-painted doors.

Daring Dining Room

A glass table with a metal band sits at the center of the dining room to make the space feel more open. The table is paired with black polycarbonate chairs and behind it there is a custom curved banquette in green gator vinyl. The banquette features two more tables for any overflow from the dining table. Above the table is a custom light fixture and above the banquette is a 3D sculptural piece of art.

We added a custom framed mirror in back painted lucite with a light coming through it to make the space feel bigger in the bathroom. The kitchen can be found behind the curtain at the end of the hallway that was originally exterior which is why there’s exposed brick. The kitchen features custom artwork and an accent lamp.
